Interview with: Celia Edell

 Known for her quirky sense of style and kick-ass feminist views, Celia Edell is taking the internet by storm. In recent months she has received over 10,000 views on YouTube videos such as "Feminists don't really want equality and other myths about feminism" and "Sexism 101", Celia also became well known for her "home-made" fashion shoots on her blog: Ceedling and Facebook  Some people even see her as some kind of feminist superhero, a sort of "Super Celia and her meowing sidekick Rococo". Here at FashionFox we decided we'd like to get to know more about this "Superwoman" and in particular her fashion sense.

You're known for your positive approach on female body hair, would it ever affect the way you dress, for example would you ever wear a sleeveless shirt specifically to make a statement? It used to affect how I dressed, it took a while for me to become comfortable enough with the natural state of my body to wear clothes that revealed my legs and underarms to strangers - now it seems irrelevant. I dress the same as I did when I shaved, or if I chose to shave again...my body does offend some people but I don't go out of my way to offend people with my appearance...most days, anyway.

What is your current favourite outfit, including shoes and jewellery? I've been feeling pretty lazy lately, maybe because it's summer time, but I feel really good in a black tank top (I thrifted a couple nice simple ones recently), and some bold print pants or shorts. My favourite pair right now is my checkered pants with daisies scattered across them, they are soft and stretchy but also interesting and busy. I love wearing patterns, more than one at once sometimes! I pretty much wear my Doc Marten low top 1461's everyday, and my Venus-symbol necklace that I made for myself using DelishBeads!!

DelishBeads are amazing!How or where do you get most of your clothes?
Thrift-stores,cheap ones - not really the boutiques that hand-pick vintage pieces as lovely as they are I can never afford anything! I online shop a lot, only occasionally buy something but when I do its usually from ASOS or Ebay if I have something specific in mind!!

With so many followers in the social media would you consider yourself a style icon or even a feminist style icon? Lord no, I am still a very real, flawed, and at times painfully boring 21 y/o. I have had a lot of wonderful incredible people tell me that Iv inspired them to learn more about feminism, or to dress for themselves, things like that. That doesn't make me an icon, but it definitely feels damn good.

You have recently received controversial responses on some YouTube videos such as "You're too pretty to be a feminist", how do you react to these kinds of comments? I have to laugh. In one day I will get comments telling me I'm too pretty, too ugly, too smart, too dumb to be a feminist. People will say anything they think will make you question yourself and your beliefs - or at least question your choice to make those beliefs public. I have learned that taking up space, especially on YouTube, comes with a great deal of ridiculous scrutiny insofar as what I say questions the status quo. I just have to see those comments for what they are - bullshit!

Yeah, its kind of a backhanded compliment. You have done alot of inspirational work within feminism including writing and modelling for Missy/Ink. Would you ever consider modelling or writing as a career? Thank you!! I model for and with friends and it is really fun but it isn't something I see myself doing as a career. I can't imagine the pressure that one would be under to have their living so dependent on physical appearance. I love fashion, and modelling is absolutely an art form - but it isn't for me, professionally anyway. I can see myself writing as a career, but it is not an easy path either, and I'm not sure yet exactly where I want to end up. I'll definitely always write, though, and I will probably always take selfies too...

                
Haha, you're the queen of selfies! You also model in many of your own photo-shoots  do you plan the shoots around a theme or just go with the flow? Sometimes, most times, I have a theme in mind, but I am never strictly committed to accuracy. We usually have outfits to go with the theme but as for location, we mostly just wing it. I have fun with the photo-shoots I do, none of them are serious - it's just nice to get my girls together, dress up in outfits we wouldn't necessarily wear otherwise, and pretend to be someone else. So I guess its a mix of both planning a theme, and going with the flow.

Lastly, how would you describe your style? This question is so hard! The last time i answered it I think I used the word "spooky"... but honestly my style is always evolving, and right now I think I would describe my style as happily stuck between childish flamboyance and thick-skinned vixen.

Lets talk about perspex ba-by, lets talk about you and me

Thats right the clear-through shoe is back, from gradient colour heels to quirky geo-shapes designers and high-street alike are all jumping on the glassy bandwagon. 


1. ASOS Party on Peep toe - £26
                           

This teal coloured shoe has a Ombre gradient heel which fades from top to bottom. The suede top looks lovely next to the glass heel but I wouldn't recommend wearing these in the rain, matted and slippery comes to mind. These shoes are relatively cheap so you can stay on trend without breaking the bank. Id wear these on a summer night out or on holiday abroad just because the colours are so fresh and fruity. My own suggestions for styling these shoes depends on hair colour:

Dark Hair: wear with a similar coloured dress and metallic accessories to maximise the depth of your locks.
Light Hair: try not to wear too many other light or bright colours or you may fall victim to "washed out syndrome". Id recommend Dark Co-ords and a cropped top to accent the very top and very bottom of your body.



2.DUNE Clarity Perspex Peep Toe - £44

This Dune shoe also has a gradient heel although it is much less obvious. This shoe would be best worn with monochrome because of its sleek patent leather. The small detail on the front really pulls it together and balances out the back detail to the front detail. At £44 this is a more expensive shoe but it can be easily transferred from the office to a night out with the addition of a little lippy and a quick hairpin.

Wear With: Cute polka dot nail wraps, Monochrome daisy detail dress and 40's rockabilly curls


3. New Look London Rebel - £34.99


Make sure your feet are perfectly preened and polished with this shoe, instead of a perspex heel New Look designers have opted for a perspex middle which makes this shoe ideal for work, meetings or a job interview. The coloured toes and heel makes them office appropriate and can be transformed for a night out in minutes. This chic shoe is both seductive and smart.
Wear with: Pencil skirt, subtly studded blouse, blazer, tights and an overcoat to keep cold in the snow. (Yes snow its snowing in England in bloody April).

4.  Rita Ora and Rihanna go head to head.
Rita Ora and Rihanna have been known for falling out and being friends then falling out again and now it seems they must be on good terms again after they were both spotted wearing the same shoes! They say you should consider your best friends opinion when choosing clothes but going out and buying the same pair shows how close you must be.
The shoes were designed by Simone Rocha and feature a Geo-patterned heel, a quirky take on the standard Stiletto heel. The super funky Brogues feature a fitted triangle which makes the shoes appear to be on a shelf, the top is a leather pattern with stitched anti-Christ symbols. The Brogues are innovative and new-age, but who wore it better.


Rihanna chose the white leather brogues and teamed them with fierce red nails to match her fierce red suit. The suit and shoe combo remind me of some of the late Michael Jacksons suits because of the vivid colour and the trademark short-cut trousers. The red blazer and pink lapel compliment each other but do they compliment the shoes? In my personal opinion no, the suit is very bright and makes a statement all on its own without the aid of a light complex shoe. Perhaps Rihanna should have stuck to a more simpler shoe or pump and wear the white brogues with a more subtle outfit to accentuate the shoes.

Rita Ora on the other hand took a different approach, instead of choosing the statement white shoes, Rita chose the subtle black  which proved an effective move as she teamed the shoe with a rough and ready double denim. Ripped Denim cut off's and a slouchy patchwork denim jacket prove a good choice. The block colour in blue denim highlights the shoes and how unique they are. Did Rita wear them better? In my opinion yes, the shoes aren't exactly "red carpet ready" and by wearing them with a relaxed outfit it highlights the minor details of the shoe.

Ins-and-Outs of: Vintage Store Shopping.

Vintage stores are popping up all around Britain and from my experiences today i can see why.

Today my sister and i visited the Blitz Vintage store in Spitalfields, London, with a 20% student discount and a high reputation amongst the Londoners themselves I had to try it out. The layout of Blitz is 100 times better than what i expected from a vintage store as most of my local vintage stores are very "search-through-a-pile-for-hidden-gems" where-as Blitz' items were all categorised according to style, type and label. Neckerchieves and scarves were in suitcases at the front whereas clothes and home-wares were in the back, downstairs are the sales (a real steal, i got a pair of brown leather loafers for £5) and men's clothes, shoes and bags. Although some items can be a little pricey (a particularly gorgeous leather backpack at £60) its mostly quite cheap and for what you get and the name brands its definitely worth it. After a couple of hours of aimlessly marvelling at the fashions on show i ended up with a Barbour tartan blazer with a suede collar and sleeve turn-ups for £30, A Denim with leather collar Levi Jacket for £38, Brown leather loafers (marked down from £35) for £5, and a pair of size 1 white converse for £20. Overall the quality of the clothes was top notch and there was plenty more in the store i would have bought had i had the time or money and its definitely worth getting yourself down there if you want some good name-brand clothing on the cheap or home-ware such as typewriters,bottles and signs. A small walk down the road took us to a large open market of food stalls, Malaysian pancakes and clothes, the stalls we stopped at were a sunglasses stall (very gaga-esque) and a cheap dress stall from which i bought two dresses i had seen in the high street store new look and for more than half price! all dresses were £12, another bargain added to the bags.
