Maybe its because I'm a Londoner.

Hey everyone,

A lot of exciting things have been happening with me lately, mainly due to the fact that Iv recently moved to London! I must have gotten too in tune to the "£2 a pint" north because I cant help but scoff at every product/bus fair/tube fair/ticket price/service tip.....basically anything that costs anything and being a student on top of all this isn't really fair on my bank balance. Being in the busy city has kept me on my feet and being the cheapskate I am Iv devised a list of the best apps to save you bucks and help you get around in London!


1. Timeout London:


Timeout London is a great app that let you know what's going on in and around your area and central London, It gives recommendations for everything from Art Galleries and events to café's and restaurants and on top of that it shows you how to get tickets to events cheaper than the door price. If you're really stuck on places to go then you can just hit the "most popular" button and it will show you what everyone else liked. This is a good app for Planning


2. City Mapper:

Citymapper is an app which uses your current location (Location button on for this app) to help you find any destination you need to get to whether it be a pub, shop or tube station. You just type where you want to go and hit "Get Route" and the app takes you to a page of travel options (see second image). It gives you options for walking, bus, bike, taxi, tube, what's safest for rain and it will calculate how much it will cost and how long it will take you to get there. Once you've chosen your transport method it takes you to a map which has the instructions laid out beneath an aerial view map of where you are. It even has a working compass on the map so if you're walking in the wrong direction it will tell you! This app is great for Travel.

3.Runtastic:

If, like me, you don't want to pay for the gym but still fancy staying in shape then Runtastic is perfect. It uses your location to map out your running journey and works similarly to the Nike+ app in the sense that it shows you how long you've been running, how many calories you have burned and lets you choose what music you'd like to listen to while you run. It also has a feature for speciality training such as 10k training, weight-loss and marathon runners. It also gives the option of "story running" in which the app uses your earphones to deliver a live-story that is affected by your running. For example, you may be running from zombies and the earphones will reflect that as you hear them getting closer behind you. You have the option of one free story "run for those who cant" and the rest are around the 99p mark. This app is perfect for Fitness.

4. Farm Hero Saga. 

I'm recommending Farm Hero Saga because its my go-to when im on the Tube. 1. You don't need internet to use it, AWESOME 2. You don't need signal to use it, AWESOME 3. Its really fun and occupying for when you have long distances to travel, AWESOME. Just try and not play this while walking anywhere because you WILL get too involved in the game and end up shouting "oh crap" in public and/or walking into a small child. Lesson Learned. This app is good for Killing Time.

Emilio Pucci Fall/Winter 13-14

Call Me a novice but I can honestly admit that before this collection I had never heard of Emilio Pucci. After seeing the embellished blouses and archive prints I can honestly say I'm glad my knowledge of Pucci began with this collection. Emilio Pucci's designs are fresh and innovative and pay compliments to his mantra "I make clothes women want to put on and men want to take off". In this particular collection the shift between classic, retro and innovation is truly refreshing and opens the eyes to the history of fashion as well as the contemporary show stoppers.













The first piece, modelled by Nadja Bender, is one of four similar outfits in this collection. The embellished blouse crossed with a retro print skirt brings party to casual and looks fabulous while doing so.Thigh high suede boots and long hair with bangs combo seems to be a house style throughout this particular collection.

 

This outfit, as modelled by Kasia Struss, sees a summer trend carried through to winter, jazzing up the western fringe trend by adding sequins and monochrome to the jacket. The outfit is recognisable as a summer piece but covers Struss enough to be suitable for winter weather.



Katya Riabynikina models this Parisian-Monochrome work. The Paige-boy hat and covered legs makes this piece have a tomboy edge but is balanced out by long flowing hair, Archive print jumper and flash of thigh. Although Pucci stays safe with monochrome she breaks it up with a classic plain brown leather bag.



Pucci breaks monochrome with brown again in this piece modelled by Karmen Pedaru. This co-ordination piece between the coat and dress works well by having the same print on show at all times. If you take off the coat, the print is there, keep it on? Print is still there. The high neckline cuts Karmen at the neck which splits the outfit as a whole into three sections: hair and face, dress and coat, thigh-boots. This makes it easier to focus on the finer details of the clothes like the fine suede of the boots and the individualised pattern on the coat and dress.



Pucci finished the collection with pastel nude colouring and classic panelling  as modelled by Chicharu Okunugi. Pucci plays on the nude colouring by leaving the legs bare and having small detailed black heels, drawing attention to the feet and dress seperatly rather than as one outfit as was done with the thigh high boots throughout the rest of the collection.



Overall Pucci has taken a classic mix of cultures and used them to his design advantage to create something fresh. After all it is said that creativity is the rearranging of the old to create the new.

Ins-and-Outs of: Vintage Store Shopping.

Vintage stores are popping up all around Britain and from my experiences today i can see why.

Today my sister and i visited the Blitz Vintage store in Spitalfields, London, with a 20% student discount and a high reputation amongst the Londoners themselves I had to try it out. The layout of Blitz is 100 times better than what i expected from a vintage store as most of my local vintage stores are very "search-through-a-pile-for-hidden-gems" where-as Blitz' items were all categorised according to style, type and label. Neckerchieves and scarves were in suitcases at the front whereas clothes and home-wares were in the back, downstairs are the sales (a real steal, i got a pair of brown leather loafers for £5) and men's clothes, shoes and bags. Although some items can be a little pricey (a particularly gorgeous leather backpack at £60) its mostly quite cheap and for what you get and the name brands its definitely worth it. After a couple of hours of aimlessly marvelling at the fashions on show i ended up with a Barbour tartan blazer with a suede collar and sleeve turn-ups for £30, A Denim with leather collar Levi Jacket for £38, Brown leather loafers (marked down from £35) for £5, and a pair of size 1 white converse for £20. Overall the quality of the clothes was top notch and there was plenty more in the store i would have bought had i had the time or money and its definitely worth getting yourself down there if you want some good name-brand clothing on the cheap or home-ware such as typewriters,bottles and signs. A small walk down the road took us to a large open market of food stalls, Malaysian pancakes and clothes, the stalls we stopped at were a sunglasses stall (very gaga-esque) and a cheap dress stall from which i bought two dresses i had seen in the high street store new look and for more than half price! all dresses were £12, another bargain added to the bags.
